Asus and Microsoft Against Linux
I’m not sure this is the bad news for Free and Open Source Community or not because Asus and Microsoft have launched a marketing campaign to encourage consumers to use netbook Windows instead of Linux.
The campaign started with a website titled “It’s better with Windows” for Windows and displays ads that suggest that it is a better choice for use with Asus netbook range.
Asus has confirmed that the campaign was legitimate, saying: “As a hardware vendor we have to provide both operating systems for our consumers”

However, some will see this initiative as an attempt by Microsoft to protect its market share increasing netbook demand.
Microsoft also faces a challenge more and more of a traditional ally. Moblin OS for Intel is developed on Linux, and the company recently launched its beta version of the latest version.
Perhaps the campaign to counter Intel’s campaign with Linux which we know the Linux is the leader for FOSS movement in the world. No one knows, who will win the battle?, or this is not just a battle but the begin of war between Windows and Linux.
What do you think?

Certainly a move by Microsoft is better than nothing. Personally, I haven’t seen any numbers of OS market share on netbooks but I would assume Linux has a higher percentage in that market compared to regular PC’s or laptops. At first I was bummed by Asus participating in this campaign but they’re probably getting a big paycheck from Microsoft. I like the company and the extra revenue is welcome. I’m also glad they aren’t discrediting Linux on their netbooks.
@CIndy: Time will answer, let see how the campaign will efective to counter Linux penetration on netbook market. As we know, the biggest processor vendor -Intel- has been release their Linux OS.
Slow but sure linux will to be winner. I hope so,..

Computer manufactures play a good part to contribute into this Linux/Windows war.. Dell’s in the league.. As soon as HP/Conpaq and more manufactures join in, you will know Linux will be the eventual winner.. Microsoft wouldn’t link this.. that’s why they are now doing such campaigns..
