The good news is just coming to Xperia Android fans because Sony has starting rollout of Ice Cream Sandwich update to all Xperia phone 2011 devices. The update comes with Android 4.0.4 and hopefully brings some new Sony’s features to give something special compared to other android phones. It is very important to do by Sony to provide the best for its Xperia phone loyal users, of course as part of Sony’s commitment to provide the best for consumers.
But there is one thing missing because Xperia Play exclude from the Android ICS update. This exception is due to specific technical factors, as we know the phone Xperia Play is the first android gaming phone and Sony was afraid that if Android 4.0 ICS will eliminate the features that have been on the Sony Xperia Play. And for that phone Xperia Play still use Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The devices that are getting the update to Android 4.0.4 ICS are Live with Walkman, Xperia Active, Xperia Arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Neo, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Pro, and Xperia Ray. So if you are using one of the above devices, please check the notification in case the update has already comes to your phone or you can check the availability of update from your phone setting, about phone than tap to check the software update.
Once again, no Xperia phone except from lineup of 2011 get the official update to Android ICS from Sony. But some great custom ROMs which support Android 4.0 ICS available in Internet but you must to know the technique to update your phone to Android ICS. For me, I just flash my Xperia X10 Android phone with custom kernel and custom ROM that pull Xperia S ROM ported to Xperia X10 and since the changes the phone is quietly okay.
The official update Android ICS of Sony Xperia phone is installed using PC Companion for Windows PC while for Mac you can use Bridge. The update is not deployed over the air, it needs PC and good internet connection since the update will download necessary file to your Xperia phone.
